My first day as a 24 year old…
Today started well – We stayed in bed until at least about 10:30, which was no surprise after spending about ten hours in the sun at the lake yesterday. We had absolutely no plans whatsoever either and that worked out brilliantly because none of us had the energy to do anything!
After a cup of coffee and scrambled egg on toast for breakfast we headed to the store to pick up a few bits, and made the decision to buy food and cook for ourselves instead of having to go out again. As soon as we’d finished shopping we went home, and I changed into my pyjama bottoms because they’re the lightest thing I have with me (it’s mid-thirties again today and without a lake to jump into every few minutes the temperature got the better of us).
In the third game of the Stanley Cup Final the Penguins beat the Sharks to make the score 3-1 overall, which means that if they win one more fixture out of a potential three, they will be crowned champions. The final is a best of seven you see, so with three wins in the bag already they’ve heavy favourites to come out on top. The next game, which is being held on Thursday night in Pittsburgh, will be the first time in franchise history that the Penguins have a chance to win the Stanley Cup on home ice. They’ve probably got it in the bag now to be honest, but I’d still like to see the Sharks get another win, because then there will be another game for us to watch a few days later.
I had no involvement whatsoever in cooking dinner, Abbie done everything. I tried to play that ‘it was my birthday yesterday’ card and she was having none of it, but knew I’d only get in the way if I tried to help so left me to watch TV. We had spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread and it was nice to eat something home cooked for what seems like the first time in forever (I mean, yeah we’ve had food cooked for us, but to eat something that I am used to was a bit out of the ordinary). We are out of alcohol which means that between Abbie and I we’ve done 24 beers in 12 days, but that’s only one each per day though so quite good going.
We’ve done quite a bit more planning because we can’t just spend the whole year here in Kelowna (as lovely as that would be). We now have travel arrangements to get from Kelowna all the way to Austin over the course of a few weeks. We have all of our accommodation between now and mid-July arranged already too!
If anybody has recommendations for the States please let us know. Anything at all, including where to go, where to eat, where to stay, what to see and what to do. You name it, we want to know about it! If you could consider the fact that we’re on a budget too though that’d be great. Message me if we know each other personally, and if not just leave a comment for me here. Thanks all!
