Day 15 – Wednesday 8th June 2016

The day the sun went away…
Yesterday evening Abbie and I made a bit of a last minute decision that we should spend a day at the beach today. Of a few beaches in Kelowna we chose to go to City Park Beach, not only because it is the closest, but also because there’s a big grass playing field nearby, and a paved walkway along Okanagan Lake riverfront which leads all the way up to Knox Mountain.
We set off around 12:00 and it took no more than half an hour to get there. When we arrived it was overcast and there was only a couple of others around. Nobody was in the water and I didn’t want to be the first in so we spent the first hour or so just relaxing on our beach towels. By early afternoon it was still cloudy and peaked at about 22℃, which is nothing to complain about of course, but also not a lot in comparison to the last week or so. Although I got in the water once more people had arrived I didn’t actually swim anywhere. I quite enjoy treading water for some strange reason (I find it relaxing I guess) so that’s what I spent my time doing.
After a little while we decided that it was time for lunch – a picnic that we’d put together earlier which consistent of leftover pizza, bagels, tortillas chips, fresh salad and watermelon. As I went to grab it (from the cool box which we’d left in the trunk) Abbie packed up our things and found a decent spot on the grass to sit and eat. That’s where we spent the rest of our afternoon before heading home later in the day for supper (more leftovers from yesterday).
Not a lot else happened to be honest, that’s about all I’ve got for you for today. It might not sound too exciting, but it was just what we needed really. A little time on our own, to do nothing but lay down and listen to the waves. Not that spending time with Marion isn’t great of course, but I bet she appreciated some time to herself without us too!
