A day of relaxation and reflection…
We seemed to have adapted to the time difference so much that we’re having a lay in almost every day now. This morning we didn’t get out of bed and shower until around 11:00 and it was beautiful. Exactly what I wanted to do with the time we’re spending in Kelowna in fact – relax.
We kind of skipped breakfast this morning, distracted by the football again, as Germany took on Ukraine. The Germans won as expected, by two goals in the end, but looked vulnerable on a few occasions which is disappointing for the world champions against a relatively unknown Ukrainian side.
We had lunch and then headed to the store to pick up a few bits, before driving over to the gas station where Abbie and I put in a joint effort to fill up a car overseas for the first time. It’s a little different here in Canada, because you have to go in to the station and pre-pay before filling up, which is good because that way the pump doesn’t let you put in any more than you have paid for. It does however take out (what I consider) the fun aspect of filling up at home; trying really hard to get a round number like £20.00 without going over to £20.01 and having to dig for a penny in your pocket or on the floor in your car.
We made sure that we got back before 17:00 so that we could watch the sixth game of the Stanley Cup Final, which Pittsburgh won to seal an overall victory and lift the trophy. Unfortunately, that means there’s will be no more ice hockey for a while now. Fortunately, I have the Euros instead. Winner!
After that we carried on with planning our trip – This time focusing on our visit to Banff National Park, which we’re going to be doing very very soon. I will leave it until we get there before I go about it any more though. I realised earlier that although this page must be really nice for those of you at home who are reading just to make sure that Abbie and I are doing fine on the other side of the world, it may be a little boring to those of my followers who I don’t know. We are in Kelowna until Saturday 2nd July, with a few days out in Banff as previously mentioned. As of then posts are going to be a lot more exciting, focusing on where we’ve been, what we’ve done, where we eat, where we sleep, how we get around, and lots lots more (with pictures, which I haven’t used that much as yet). For the moment however, I will try not to bore you too much by repeating myself about driving Marion’s car and eating around her dining table.
I am going to call it a night soon, at around 9pm. I felt a little rough earlier so took a few pills, which have made me sleepy more than anything else. Hopefully that will mean an early start tomorrow though, so that we can get loads done!
