On the road again…
Today we knew we had at least about seven hours of driving ahead of us, but tried to do as much as possible instead of just having a travel day. With so many potential things to do, we chose two – the Banff Gondola and a return to Lake Louise.
Seeings as though the Banff Gondola was only 8 minutes away from our hotel by car we decided to do that first, but not all when to plan. It was particularly cloudy, and far from ideal for a decent view. We asked the opinion of a few people before one exceptionally honest member of staff showed us CCTV footage from the top, which was pretty disappointing. We may have still given it a shot if it wasn’t for the price – $40 per person to take a ride up a mountain? No thank you. Here’s what it looked like from the bottom of the gondola though, just to give you an idea of how beautiful Banff is, even on a bad day:
Left a tad disappointed we made our way straight to Lake Louise with high hopes that it’d be much clearer than yesterday. It took a couple of hours to get there and although the clouds didn’t clear completely, a few breaks had the water absolutely gleaming! For the first time this trip we done the brave thing and asked a stranger to take a photo of us together. Seriously, have you ever seen anything more gorgeous? The lake I mean, not us:
Wow we look sunburned. We’re not that orange in real life I promise!
With no radio and just a few CD’s to listen to (Adele and The Beatles) the same songs got a little boring after a while, and with a good five hours left of driving, we had to break things up a little. As we reached Revelstoke, signs started appearing for Canyon Hot Springs, just 800m off of the highway, which we thought we’d give a shot.
With nothing but mountains and trees in sight it was what I’d consider the definition of relaxation. Abbie says that being there brought out the Hungarian side in me, but I think I just like the idea of a big hot bath in the mountains!
We left after an hour or so, then continued on the journey home, and went to bed around 21:00 shortly after getting in.
Tomorrow will see the start of operation get my teeth fixed, which I’m really not looking forward to, but has to be done soon because we’re leaving the Canada in less than two weeks! Cross your fingers for me, I really need this sorted.
