Day 27 – Monday 20th June 2016

The last thing I expected to be doing on my travels…
So today was our first day back in Kelowna and I had just one objective – Fixing the teeth that I had knocked out when rafting.
Since losing my teeth a few days ago, although I’ve been able to temporarily fix them through the use of denture glue, it has been a struggle to eat, drink or hold a conversation without fearing that they might fall out. In order to give myself the best chance of finding a fix before we set off on further travels I went straight to the walk in clinic this morning, but they couldn’t offer any suggestions as to where to go. Their best suggestion was to look online, which I could have worked out for myself really.
Instead of going for a Google search straight away I flicked through the Yellow Pages (probably the first time ever to be honest) and found somewhere which sounded ideal, Kelowna Dental Centre, who advertise themselves as a denture specialist. I was quite concerned, being on the other side of the world, but also because of the potential costs involved.
Everybody was super friendly, which I thought may have been a bad thing at first. You know the old ‘be really nice but charge you a fortune’ trick? Luckily for me, that wasn’t the case. Although it couldn’t be immediately determined whether or not my teeth could just be put back in, in the end they could. Yep, I’ve actually got my teeth back!
It feels a bit weird, because I’ve had to go a few days using temporary denture glue instead of having permanent dental cement, which are quite different things. I’m sure it will only take a few days to get used to though. There’s some excess cement that I hope will wear off after a while or something, but as a whole, I’m fixed and a very happy young man! Yeah so I may have had to pay out a little more than I can afford, but when it’s that or have no teeth for a year, I’m hardly going to say no to the dentist am I?
You’re not getting anything else from me today, that’s it. I had this to concentrate on today, and once sorted, I done absolutely nothing. I’m well chuffed!

Glad things worked out for you – no fun requiring help in a foreign country.

  2. Weren’t they able to grind of the excess cement at the Dental Center? Maybe its worth going back for that. But glad you’re all fixed up!
