Hiking is usually great, but not always…
We returned to Knox Mountain today and hiked the Apex Trail, an unpathed path up to Apex Lookout which is roughly 300m above the level of Okanagan Lake. Alright, alright, we cheated and drove half way up, but there’s good reason!
Yesterday we passed the Asian Pear Buffet, which believe it or not, is an Asian all-you-can-eat buffet. Abbie remembers eating there when she last visited Kelowna so we gave it a shot today, in the early afternoon because that’s when it’s cheapest. We skipped breakfast, because why waste space on cereal when you can fill up on Asian food a bit later, right?
For under $15 per head, I had three huge plates of food then a few slices of watermelon after, and Abbie had two standard plates of food but a huge plate of desserts. Priorities, ey?
The only flaw in our eating and hiking plan was the order in which we done it – walking after eating is definitely not the best of ideas! After all that food I could’ve gone home to bed for a few hours I think, we really made sure that we got our money’s worth. To add to that it was over 30℃ again today so before we even got out of the car to walk we needed a rest already.
I let Abbie go first so that I could get a few snaps of her ‘climbing’:
It was a real struggle I won’t lie about that, but as we reached Apex Lookout at the very top of the mountain (the first mountain we’ve reached the top of might I add) the views were so worth it. It’s almost as though every time we go somewhere new we play a hypothetical game of top trumps, except none of the cards lose because everywhere we’ve been is so amazing.
In one direction you could see both Downtown Kelowna and West Kelowna:
Then in the other direction you could see past Bear Creek towards Vernon:
It’s so nice that we’ve got good weather for our last week here – it’s expected to be over 30℃ again every day until we leave. That said I still can’t get over the fact that we’ve basically been gone for five weeks already!
