Day 38 – Friday 1st July 2016

Happy Canada Day…
Today marks Canada’s 149th birthday – what a way to spend our last day in Kelowna! We headed to Prospera Place at around 11am after breakfast, where the celebrations started. Floods of red and white could be seen in every direction, and of course we dressed for the occasion too:

Our first stop was super busy! Loads of food stands from every corner of the globe made up the edge of what is usually the ice rink, whilst on stage there was was a formal bit to get everything started:

Our true motivation for hanging around so long came straight after that though. Free Canada cake! Check this out:

After stuffing our faces we headed to town to see what else was going on. There was loads happening, with a few stages dotted around where live music and dancers performed. The first stage that we visited was on the beach, which would’ve been ideal had it not been a bit cloudy at the time:

The second was perfect though, at the bottom of a hill where the sun was shining through a break in the clouds:

We picked up lunch at Smoke’s Poutinerie, where they serve fries with some insane toppings. We went for whatever was on special – I think it was along the lines of chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy, but either way it was incredible. Oh and house beer, tastefully named the Tramp Stamp:

We then went home and finished packing our bags ahead of leaving town tomorrow, before Marion sent us back to the lake where fireworks were due at 22:30, a perfect opportunity to try out our new selfie stick again. The posing is getting better, right? You can’t tell that this is a selfie stick photo can you:

Anyway the fireworks came after that and it was a great way for our stay to come to an end. I took a few short videos but spent the majority of the time just watching and enjoying the show. Here’s a short clip that I did get though:

So, that’s it. In the morning well be hitting the road again!
