Day 59 – Friday 22nd July 2016

Our first trip to the hospital…
Not the best start at all really. After a pretty sleepless night we arrived in New Orleans, then on the way to our Airbnb to drop off our bags the heavens opened up and it started to absolutely pour with rain, before Abbie tripped on a broken paving slab. She didn’t go all the way over, but the weight on her back played a significant part in damaging her toe, which was bad enough to warrant a trip to A&E.
We waited for hours before she was taken through, and it was another couple of hours before she returned. They didn’t do too much, just glued her nail in place so that she didn’t lose it and prescribed a few creams. We were worried because of the reputation associated with American hospital bills, and rightfully so. In total it came to just over $515. Here’s to our first insurance claim!
I got straight on the phone to our insurers immediately and found out what to do. We’ve got several forms printed and didn’t have to pay anything because the hospital can send an invoice direct to them, which is good and means that were not short of over $500 for a while.
For the rest of the day we found ourselves limited due to Abbie’s condition so went back to our place for the night and relaxed, booking accommodation for the next week or so that we have left in the States.
We ordered takeaway from a local place called Nola Gumbo, keeping it traditional you know, and watched another few episodes of Private Eyes before getting a very early night, which we’ve needed for about a month now! Maybe we’ll even lay in tomorrow as well.

  1. Best wishes for a quick recovery! Enjoy NO, it’s such a great city. My favourite is going to a Jazz-Brunch at “Court of Two Sisters” in Royal Street.
