I guess that’s it then…
After thirty days in America, today was our last. With just a couple of things left on our to-do list we started the day with a visit Grand Central Station:
From there we walked past the Chyrsler Building towards the Empire State Building, which we opted not to climb since it was so expensive:
Besides, I’m not really a fan of heights, and saw enough of Manhattan from Brooklyn Heights and Liberty Island yesterday.
After that we checked out the New York Library, which was very busy but also absolutely dead silent; a nice change from the libraries I’m used to at home. The main reading room, which we really wanted to see, was closed, but they put a big canvas up so that we could pretend that we’d seen it:
It started to absolutely pour with rain early in the afternoon as we walked between the library and our last stop of the day, Tompkins Square Park. We had our rain coats packed but still ended up getting drowned, so retreated for a bagel shop after a while. We had a bagel each and an ice coffee to share, but these weren’t just any old plain and boring bagel that you can pick up for $1 from McDonald’s. Mine was so full that I could barely even take a bite! In fact it was so good that I didnt even stop to take a picture, so got one of outside instead:
After eating and wandering around the park, still in the rain might I add, we made our way back to pack our bags.
Because we can’t carry much in terms of food/drink we finished off some houmous and pitta bread with a side of maccaroni cheese, and then Jimmy Fallons Tonight Dough (ice cream) for dessert. The early night that we planned ended up being a pretty late one, and by the time our heads hit the pillow we had less than four hours until we had to be up to catch our flight.
In all honesty, I’m quite done with America now. Its been wonderful but I am more than ready to move on, and can’t wait for our next adventure!
