Day 122 – Thursday 22nd September 2016

We’re getting the hang of this…
Today we got straight back to work, but this time with a little experience under our belts. First we had to tidy up and rake loads of wood chips, which was an absolute breeze when compared to the days of mulching we endured not so long ago. After that we rounded up sixteen cows and moved them from one paddock to another without any help from our hosts, which felt like a pretty big achievement, and then took a new trough down to the new calves to keep them happy too. After that we had a tea break which seemed to last forever, and then carried on with the decking that we laid yesterday on our day off.
Thanks to the head start the we gave ourselves all we had to do was bang nails into existing holes, which was a piece of cake. That was our last job of the day too, and took no time at all! We showered and took some time to ourselves but couldn’t settle down properly as we felt like we hadn’t done much work. I’m not sure if it’s because there wasn’t too much to do today or if we are just getting better at the bits that we are doing, but either way we couldn’t find anything else so offered to make dinner instead.
We only done a tuna bake, which was quick and easy, but went down pretty well with our hosts, who surprised us with apple pie and ice cream for our efforts. All in all our day was quite slow, but fulfilling nonetheless. We’re really getting there as farmers now!
