Day 130 – Friday 30th September 2016

Straight back to it…
Instead of one big event we had two smaller events today, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Although each event only required two staff they overlapped by an hour or so, so we had to go as two teams of two. We decided to stick to what we know, so Abbie went with the rock climbing wall in the morning and I went with the inflatables in the afternoon.
Both of the events were only two hours long, but Abbie had to be up and ready to leave by 06:30 for her event which started at 10:00, and I got a little bit more of a lay in. Although my job didn’t start until 13:00, I still had to be up for 08:00 to sort out the chickens like normal, and then got straight to work on other bits at base before we had to leave.
We knew that all of the units from yesterday were still sitting in their bags soaking wet, so got them all inflated to dry in the wind (because the sun decided not to come out, again). We had to get going straight after that, so put our uniforms on and decided to leave everything out, having crossed our fingers that it wouldn’t rain.
It took about an hour to get to the event that I was working on, but only about half an hour to set up because I just cracked on without any instruction (having already done the same job twice before). Not a single person walked past us during the first hour, so we spent our time wiping down each of the inflatables with a wet cloth to make sure they were clean just in case anybody showed up. Our saving grace came in the form of a summer camp group who happened to be walking past, then and stayed until it was time to pack up again. Our day was only a short one anyway, but combined with a few kids who seemed to have an endless amount of energy, it was over before we knew it.
Packing away was quick and easy, then on our way back to the farm we stopped to get fish and chips for dinner, and had a nice quiet evening without bothering to put anything away. Our hosts told us that we could take the next few days off – our first actual weekend in over four months! They also said that we could use one of their cars and go out if we wanted to, which sounded like a great plan. We went to bed without setting anything in stone, but with the intention of definitely going exploring further than the farm.
